Here at Mountain Sky, we’re on a mission to inspire our clients to think of their closets not just as functional storage rooms, but also as spaces that should reflect the thoughtful aesthetics found in the rest of their home.
One of the ways we like to do this is to take what’s happening in the interior design world and let it inspire us in our area of expertise —luxury closets and other storage spaces. Here’s how you can incorporate some of 2024’s top design trends into your closet remodel.
Quiet Luxury
Quiet luxury is a movement that’s about investing in timeless classics, rather than jumping on fly-by-night trends that, among other drawbacks, aren’t as sustainable as investing in pieces that you’ll love forever. The idea, per designer Karolina Zmarlak in WWD, is “seasonless luxury.”
Starting first in fashion, we’re seeing this trend manifest in interiors as neutral colors, classic silhouettes and quality over quantity. Per Vogue: “Think dark woods, luxurious soft textures, and traditionally shaped furniture that can evolve through the decades with re-upholstery.”

Warm & light colored finishes, Eco Domo leather drawer fronts & Tag Engage laundry baskets can help you achieve a quiet luxury look.
How to apply the quiet luxury trend to your closet:
- Opt for quality materials that will last a long time over “fast furniture” brands which will break and need to be replaced. This is not only frustrating, but also has a negative impact on the environment. All Mountain Sky products are built to last and have a lifetime guarantee.
- Choose neutral colors for your design: Our finishes Vintage, Arctic, Cloud, Chiffon and Latte would all fit this palette.
- Add fabrics and texture: Recycled leather countertops or drawer fronts from Eco Domo fit the trend’s sustainability concerns, while adding a cozy layer of texture to the look. Cloth lingerie or laundry baskets by Tag Engage offer both functionality and the classic linen look in muted tones.
Personality Pops Back Into Design
In a simultaneous and yet somewhat divergent movement to the muted hues of quiet luxury, there’s a shift toward less structured design and more authenticity and playfulness. These rooms are intended to feel livable instead of over-stylized.
This trend takes the form of adding in statement antique pieces or highlighting artisanal souvenirs picked up during travels.

How to add more play & personality into your closet design:
- Lighted shelving for statement pieces like those Lucchese boots or vintage handbags
- Glass countertops that display meaningful pieces collected throughout the years, rather than tucked away in drawers
- Antique lighting that becomes the centerpiece of a master closet
- Bold cabinetry colors that reflect your personal style
- Choose a closet mirror that adds artistry to what is often seen as a functional piece. (Consider mirrors in oblong and other unique shapes–drawing on the biophilic design trend and its love of organic shapes.)
Blues are the Color of the Year
There pretty much wasn’t a shade of blue that was missed in this year’s color of the year charts. While opting for entirely blue cabinetry in your closet might not fit in some mountain home aesthetics, there are ways to add it as an accent, such as on drawer and door fronts. It’s a great way to play homage to the cool, bright hues of winter here in the mountains.

Dual Tones
The trending dual-toned walls that we are seeing in living and bedroom spaces can be incorporated into closets and other storage rooms. This is a simple way to add a lot of character to a space.

Two-tone color interior design by Decorilla.
How to incorporate dual tones in your closet:
- Paint your closet a vibrant color, then choose a contrasting finish for your cabinetry and shelves
- Choose Eco Domo leather drawer fronts to add both texture and color variety
- Select variations of the same shade to create a “color drenching” effect
- Add glass doors to cabinets in one of our Mixology colors
Hardware Trends – Chrome & Mixed Metals
While we’ve seen a focus on black hardware for the last few years in a lot of our designs for clients, this year designers are noting a turn toward more silver-toned hardware, particularly chrome.
There’s also the fun trend of mixing and matching hardware finishes. Using one color on the drawer fronts, and another style and finish on the cabinet pulls.
How to bring this trend into your closet:
- Mix and match from our selection of hardware, including chrome options
- Choose contrasting pulls and back plates from Perigold or these two-toned knobs.
